This month we are talking about skills. To choose the business that is right for you, you will need to recognize and appreciate the skills you have. This is not the time for humility. Nor is it the time for grandiosity. Overestimate your abilities and you will struggle. Underestimate and you will be wasting your gifts and the opportunities they afford.
Begin with Self Awareness
How well do you know yourself? Are you able to be honest about your abilities? Do you know what you most like to do? Do you know what you want from life?
Knowing oneself is not as easy as it sounds. Often, we maintain the beliefs and desires we were handed as children. There is no shortage of people and institutions ready to tell us who we should be and how we should behave.
How ready are you to unlearn all you were taught and seek your own path? In my book From Vision to Decision: A Self-Coaching Guide to Starting a New Business I’ve designed powerful questions and profound exercises intended to help you grow in self-awareness. When you know yourself well, you will be better prepared to design a business that supports you not only financially but creatively.
The maxim, “Know Thyself” can be attributed to no less than 12 ancient philosophers (and now me). Self-awareness is an ongoing process and, some say, the purpose of our time here on earth. When you read From Vision to Decision: A Self-Coaching Guide to Starting a New Business and do the thinking exercises available on line, you will learn not only more about yourself but also how to build a business that will enhance the life you choose.
